Iron Infusions
At Marina Medical Centre, we provide safe and effective iron infusions for patients experiencing iron deficiency or iron deficiency anaemia in our local community, including Patterson Lakes, Carrum, Seaford, Bonbeach, and Chelsea.
Iron deficiency can impact your daily life, causing symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, headaches, and shortness of breath. If oral iron supplements are not working or causing side effects, an iron infusion may be the best option.
What is an Iron Infusion?
An iron infusion delivers iron directly into your bloodstream through a cannula inserted into a vein. This allows your body to quickly restore iron levels, often with fewer side effects than tablets.
Who May Need an Iron Infusion?
You may benefit from an iron infusion if you:
- Have low iron levels or iron deficiency anaemia
- Cannot tolerate oral iron supplements
- Have ongoing blood loss or absorption issues
- Require rapid iron replacement (e.g. before or after surgery and during or after pregnancy)
What to Expect
Your doctor will assess your individual health status and perform any necessary blood tests. They will then assess your suitability for iron infusion.
If you are deemed suitable for an iron infusion, the procedure can be performed in-clinic under supervision by your doctor. You are closely monitored during and after the infusion for side effects and any allergic reactions
